The Autism Advocacy You Deserve
Defending the rights of individuals with autism and their families
When families with autism receive therapy in accordance with professional standards lives are changed. But the future of autism treatment is under constant challenge. Restrictions are being set by school districts, insurance companies, agencies, and court systems that limit coverage of ABA therapy. Parents and providers should not have to fight for services over and over again. The NALC fights for access to quality, evidence-based services for everyone.
People with autism continue to face discrimination and neglect. Access to effective treatment, education, employment, and housing remains out of reach for too many. Laws exist that can help, but too often, these laws are not enforced for the families they are intended to serve. The NALC can level the playing field by making sure that the laws enacted to protect people with autism are broadly applied and vigorously enforced.
Children with autism eventually grow up and turn into adults. Those who were denied access to effective, evidence-based services may need continued support as they age into adulthood. The NALC will support and coordinate advocacy and advancements in areas such as housing, employment, access to government programs, and service animals and technology supports to ease the period of transition for individuals with autism and their families.
Teamwork and community is how change happens. In addition to educating regulators and policymakers, and supporting and coordinating the efforts of public and private attorneys pursuing autism litigation, the NALC aims to empower providers, parents, and autism advocates with information, organizing, and training.
